Before shared cloud folders, a large part of office memory lived in paper: drawers, shelves, binders, folders, labels and stacks waiting to be moved or returned.
What this record preserves
Physical document storage and the repeated work of sorting, carrying, locating and replacing files.
Why it matters
Paper-based information management made storage visible. Knowledge occupied furniture and floor space. Finding a document could mean standing up, walking to a cabinet or shelf, reading labels and handling a physical folder rather than typing into a search field.
